Day 3 - Audubon to Waukee

written by: Hassel-half

Daily Statistics

  • Distance: 74.5 miles
  • Time: 4 hours 40 minutes
  • Average Speed: 16mph

Today was definitely better than yesterday. It was almost as far, but the wind was coming from our side as we were headed east again which made for a faster pace and better attitudes. Riders were talking to eachother again instead of the erie silence of yesterday as people were too tired to talk.

The major highlights of today were meeting Cy (the Iowa State Cyclones mascot) in Redfield, seeing Cookie from Cookies Bar-B-Q sauce at lunch, and the best thing was arriving to Waukee to the Nelson's house, air conditioning, a warm shower, and the amazing meal that Papa Delicious and Sherpa prepared.

Tomorrow we ride from Waukee, through Polk City, through Elkart, and arrive in Newton. Watching the news this evening we found that Lance Armstrong will be riding part of the day tomorrow as well as Thursday, so we also have that to look forward to. If anyone is interested in meeting up with us call us early, as we will leave around 7am. Call Sherpa or Mark's cell phone if interested.
